Day 1 - WELCOME TO AOTEAROA, NEW ZEALAND
Arrive Auckland International Airport where you will be met by a local representative who will deliver your travel documents and assist with any last minute questions you may have. Transfer by chauffeur driven car into Auckland City with a three hour tour en route of this vibrant and cosmopolitan city before being delivered to your accommodation which is an inner city boutique property with a wonderfully eclectic, romantic style.
Day 2 - AUCKLAND/WAIPOUA
This morning collect a Ford Falcon or similar 3 litre automatic rental vehicle. Drive north over the Auckland Harbour Bridge, through the suburbs of the North Shore and continue on to Matakohe to visit the interesting Kauri Museum. From here travel up the west coast to Waipoua. Your accommodation is located on the southern boundary of the Waipoua Forest - the old homestead and working sheds have been renovated to make this a boutique property. This evening join local guide for a twilight experience in the forest - let the night noises, local Maori guides, ecological and cultural interpretation (Maori story, song and instruments) awaken your spiritual senses.
Day 3 - WAIPOUA/MATAURI BAY
Continue your journey north around the Hokianga Harbour then travel inland and across the island to the east coast travelling up to Matauri Bay. The lodge is set on 6,00 acres of land and the accommodation is a series of suites surrounding the elegant main building overlooking the Cavalli Islands and Pacific Ocean. There is an on-site Spa and a golf course to challenge even the most experienced player.
Day 4 - MATAURI BAY
Enjoy a scenic flight by helicopter from the lodge up the western coastline and over the surf and sands of Ninety Mile Beach, which stretches towards the horizon. On landing you will be taken on a driving tour to Cape Reinga, the northern most point of New Zealand where the blue Pacific Ocean meets the green Tasman Sea, sharing the myths and legends of this very spiritual area. The return flight follows the east coast over bays and inlets that can only be seen from the air. Free afternoon for your own choice of activities.
Day 5 - MATAURI BAY (B)
Today drive south perhaps detouring to the Bay of Islands before travelling on through the City of Whangarei to Matakana, an area that boasts a number of excellent wineries as well as art and craft outlets such as Morris and James Pottery. There are also several popular beaches in the area such as Omaha Beach, Snell's Beach and Martin's Bay. Your accommodation is in an architecturally designed contemporary luxury lodge sited on a vineyard with views across the vineyard to the mountains and the sea.
Day 6 - MATAURI BAY/ROTORUA
Travel south through Auckland, past the market gardens of the Bombay Hills then into the fertile farmlands of the Waikato Valley Basin. Continue on to the thermal wonderland of Rotorua. Your accommodation is a gracious home that has been transformed into a boutique lodge located on the shores of Lake Rotorua with uninterrupted views across the water.
Day 7 - ROTORUA
This morning enjoy a private tour of the Rotorua area with local Maori guide. Drive up Mt Ngongotaha for views across the lake, visit a Marae (Maori Ancestral House) and a talk about the protocol attached to these sacred places then visit the colourful Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Park for a self-guided walk. This afternoon enjoy a floatplane ride from Lake Rotorua over the Crater Lakes District flying over Mt.Tarawera's Crater Rift then south past the Steaming Cliffs and the hot lakes of Waimangu Volcanic Valley. Return to Rotorua over the Blue and Green Lakes, the geysers of Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve, and Rotorua City. Following this join a Kiwi Encounter to see how the national icon of New Zealand is being brought back from the brink of extinction. In the evening journey back in time to a pre-European lifestyle experience of customs and traditions on a marae as it comes alive to the sound and activities of tribal songs, myths, legends and dance including the vigorous haka. Includes hangi dinner.
Day 8 - ROTORUA/TAUPO
Before departing Rotorua join a guided tour of Te Puia Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve - home of the Pohutu Geyser and the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute where young Maori are taught the carving and weaving skills of their ancestors. Travel south through farmland and pine forest to Taupo, nestled on the shores of New Zealand's largest lake. The lodge is set on seven tranquil acres on the banks of the Waikato River upstream from the Huka Falls. The rooms are located overlooking the river and are a short walk to the main lodge building with guest lounge and dining room.
Day 9 - TAUPO/NAPIER
This morning fly across Lake Taupo by helicopter to the three mountains of the Tongariro National Park. See the crater lake of Mount Ruapehu and the volcanic formations amongst the snow covered peaks. Later in the day travel east over the ranges and through the Esk Valley into the Hawkes Bay region. Tonight's accommodation is set amongst 30 acres of picturesque park-like grounds and enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The defining moment in the history of the lodge occurred in 1958 when Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother stayed in the homestead during her tour of New Zealand.
Day 10 - NAPIER
To start the day enjoy a tour of the Art Deco Capital in a beautifully restored vintage Buick and visit the remarkable National Tobacco Company Building, the Deco suburb of Marewa, and a stunning Art Deco home. In the afternoon join an exclusive Wine and Food Lovers tour of the area visiting some of the best vineyards and sampling their produce. Visits to special food outlets en route are also included.
Day 11 - NAPIER/PALLISER BAY
Today travel through the rolling farmlands of Central Hawkes Bay and the Wairarapa, perhaps detour into the small town of Martinborough to visit some of the small 26 boutique wineries before driving into the isolated area of Palliser Bay. Situated on a 5,50 acre working sheep farm, the lodge has been designed in the style of an Edwardian country manor with guest cottages set in secluded surroundings.
Day 12 - PALLISER BAY
No visit to the lodge is complete without a tour of the sheep station. Explore the far reaches of the property in four-wheel drive comfort. The farm tour features all the activities which make up New Zealand's legendary farming heritage, including sheep shearing and sheep dogs in action. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the lodge facilities which include swimming pool, tennis court, beauty day spa, outdoor jacuzzi and gym for guest use.
Day 13 - DEPART NEW ZEALAND
Today travel over the Rimutaka Hill, through the Hutt Valley and into Wellington - the Seat of Parliament and Capital City. Return rental vehicle at Wellington Airport and depart New Zealand.
